Project Aquarium and Enviromentall center

In this specific diplomatic study, the aquarium as a mean of entertainment and education contributes to the showing off and refunctioning of the Glass- works which is part of the industry of Drapetsona.

In combination with the location of industry that contacts with sea front, as they have complete their living time, they have the ability to reappear as areas of entertainment, civilization in order to comfort the existing thickly populated city towards the sea.

Based on the architectural contest of the prize winning study by the architects ''OI KARYDOI'' for the reformation of the area. This study has environmental character, that's why the intervention of this specific study will replace the use of the Glass-work and the silos from sea-therapy center and history museum of industry to an environmental center-aquarium as well as residential apartments. The proposal of the former study is composed of two parts, the one of the environmental centre and the other of aquarium. Both uses function bound together and simultaneously.

The purpose of this intervention is the visitors to be entertained and informed through this exhibition route for the sea world and the industrial installation. This is succeeded through alternations of images, sounds and interactive environmental demonstration.

The concept of the design Is to combine aquarium and Glass-work images. Along this route the fortune of the old building is pointed out. In old days the Glass-work was part of the engine and the other way around. This connection is transferred to the present in the combination of aquarium and building. This is succeeded with a series of handlings where the element of water is imprinted architecturally with curved formations, while the steady exhibition of Glass-work has rectum shapes. The rout of aquarium is characterized from the loss of orientation and time because such an atmosphere exists in the bottom of the sea. Therefore the visitor is constantly guided by the architectural elements and light through this route. Finally in this route there are two elements that unite the Glass-works to the silos and the opposite. An internal ramp beginning from the Glass-work ends up to the silo as well as an underground tunnel returns to the surface.
